Been Looking Over My Earliest Blog Posts and.... AAAAARRRRGGGHHHH!!!!!

Yeah... the title for this entry pretty much sums up my feelings today. Why? You ask... or maybe not, after all I'm not inside your heads. But if you are asking that question, well the answer is "THE DOOR"!

Now I might be hearing some of you saying, "A door? What door?"

Well, here's a little reminder...

Yeah, THAT one. The one I've been going on about for months and even a couple of years. Sadly, it hasn't exactly been just a couple of years. After going over my entries for this blog it turns our that I've apparently been going on about this book since about... 2013.

Cue embarrassment...

Damn it! Why is there never a nice big rock (preferably the size of a small mountain) to crawl under when you need it?

Well, since said rock isn't about to make a helpful appearance anytime soon, I may as well give you the rest of the explanation. A severe, and I do mean SEVERE case of Writer's Block has been plaguing me when it comes to this book for quite some time. However, it wasn't until I was going over my earliest entries on this blog that I fully realized that this has been going on for over 10 years! (Now you know where the "ARGH" in the title of this entry comes in)

Now you may be wondering what exactly has been the sticking point in this story that I haven't been able to overcome? Well, it's a particular scene which involves Cassandra Elliott and her ghostly guardian Brandon Elliott. Both have appeared in our first two Para-Earth novels "The Bridge" and "The Ship". Now exactly why Brandon (and a couple of other ancestors) watch over Cassandra has never been fully revealed. But their connection is strong, and the scene I have in mind would involve the two of them coming face-to-face meeting at a time when Brandon was still alive!

Cue possible time travel options...

Now the relevance of this meeting affects not just Cassandra's modern day story, but another book I've been planning for quite some time. Back when I first started working on "The Door", I began plotting another book that would focus on Brandon and his family back in the 1800's and would help explain the threat (a certain white-haired man) who has been following Cassandra throughout our first 2 books "The Bridge" and "The Ship", and his connection to the Para-Earths.

I even went so far as to complete a 1st draft of Brandon's story (or at least the first half of his story-- yeah, there will be at least 2 books in his story... or possibly more who knows). So I already have yet another book waiting to be given the 2nd and 3rd draft treatments. However, the meeting with Cassandra is the key to wrapping the 2nd novel in Brandon's story. Yet at the same time, that same meeting is also the big climactic scene of "The Door"!

Now this leaves me with the problem of possibly repeating the events of the Big Boss level and how he's defeated in not one but two different books! I'm sure a number of you have realized the enormity of this situation. If I go down the road of sharing the events o what goes down during the final battle in both books, while sharing it from two or more characters' point of view, the actual events would already be familiar to some or most of the readers, thus lessening the impact of the events and the outcome of the confrontation. Or, I could simply cut the scene from one book and have the character from it disappear from sight of their friends and allies, and focus on the battle of those folks are waging (which admittedly could be interesting if done correctly) but it might feel less satisfying for the audience.

So what should I do?

NEXT TIME: A UNIQUE SOLUTION?

Stay tuned folks, and keep writing and take care.
